Samulnori
Samulnori means the play or performance of four musical instruments: gongwaengwari, janggu, drum, and gong.
The sound of a gong is likened to thunder, the sound of a gong to the wind, the sound of a janggu to rain, and the sound of a drum to clouds.
Nongak or Pungmulnori is a traditional entertainment culture that has grown based on Korea's agricultural culture.
People in rural areas in general used Pungmulnori for ceremonies such as various village ancestral rites or used it as a means of entertainment to strengthen unity at the village level.
Samulnori was adapted as a stage art in 1978 from a large-scale Pungmulnori performed outdoors.
If pungmulnori emphasized the activity of outdoor performance accompanied by large-scale play, samulnori can be said to be a form of performance that emphasizes the emotion that can be felt from the instrument itself.
Playing various rhythms, it proceeds as a development method of gigyeonggyeolhae, beginning, progress, climax, and finish in the periodic flow of tension and relaxation.
